Packing Tip #25 Eagle Creek Packing Cubes

Here at Smart Travelling we like to think of ourselves as being pretty good packers. So we thought we would share with you one of our best assets to date.

Have a think about the way you pack. Imagine. No more panic attacks worrying about the Customs Officials snooping around in your bag finding heaven knows what, dirty laundry getting mixed up with your clean clothes, or your bag accidentally popping open and your clothes being strewn across the airport floor. Or even worse, having to open it to reduce the weight of your bag…..

There are a lot of packing cubes on the market. In Australia, we do not get quite the choice they have in the US, but now that you can order online, the range has increased 10 fold, so long as you like to spend money on postage. There are quite a few around including Katmandu, Go Travel, Lapoche to name three, but I think these are the best ones for durability and practicality.

When I do my talks I show this Folder 18 and claim that it fits 12 ironed shirts inside. Of course I don’t actually demonstrate this, (nor do I own 12 shirts!) but there is a video to prove it if you are lucky enough to be a member of the Smart Travelling Website. In fact, I even show you how to pack it!

If you don’t have 12 shirts to pack, then I put other things in too, like folded jeans or shorts or lightweight trousers AND sometimes a lightweight sweater or two. It fits a lot in it, believe me.

I can fit up to 8 T Shirts in one of these.

The cube above comes in either a double compartment or single. I roll my T Shirts up and can fit 8 long sleeved ones in one side alone. The other is waterproof, so if laundry doesn’t dry, or you have that last minute swim before heading to the airport, you can use the other side for wet stuff.

Now if you do the math, there is quite a lot going on in these cubes and they take up very little room in your bag, as you can see from the picture below. Somehow magically they give you a whole lot more room in your suitcase and it becomes a tardis. And the best thing is, it could be the difference between checked in luggage or saving money and only taking carry on. Imagine that!

Try them out yourself and see what you think, and please share with the rest of us, so we can see how clever you are…which reminds me. Have you seen Tony’s Packing Dilemmas? His life changed when he started usingĀ Eagle Creek. HeĀ changed his techniques for packing and now he is a smart traveller and a smart packer!

For the best range go to The Luggage Professionals and see for yourself. Happy shopping and packing!

Great if you pack clothes for more than one as you can color code the cubes to each person. I tried cheap ones that broke quickly but my Eagle Creeks will last a while. Wouldn’t travel without them now.
